Activity 1: Brainstorming
You will be spending the first part of this unit studying and learning about Greek and Latin word roots. Why do you think it is important, especially in science, for us to know and understand Greek and Latin word roots? You will work in PAIRS for this activity. Go to the Padlet below, click on the pink plus sign. Type FIRST NAME ONLY of BOTH students then type your answer. Answer the question: Why is it important (especially in science) to know and understand word roots? Try to be original in your responses. Do not simply copy the response of other students.

When two activities are listed side by side and listed as A or B activities (as you see below), one activity must be completely individually online. If you do not have a laptop available, then you can work on the "B" assignment. The "B" assignment will be something that can be completed without the use of a laptop. With the "B" activity below, you will need to watch the video and read instructions before you start the paper assignment. Please complete both activities (A and B) before moving on.

What do I do now?
At this point, you have completed all of the assignments for section 1A. So what are you supposed to do now? Well, it depends....
- Your instructor has probably already announced the QUIZ DATE (if not, then ask). You goal is to make sure you are ready by the quiz date. There will be a PRACTICE QUIZ and a FINAL QUIZ. Make sure you are prepared for both quizzes.
- If you are NOT ready for the quiz... If you feel that you need to more work to be ready for the quiz, then you should play some review games. At the end of each section, there will be review games available. Those review games may be in the form of crossword puzzles, dominoes, tarcia puzzles, bingo, or others. You will get these games from your instructor.
- If you ARE ready for the quiz... If you get to the end of a section and you feel that you are ready for the quiz and the day of the quiz is not here yet, then you should begin working on the Unit Project. Go to the Unit 1 tab and look for the Unit 1 Project. Unit Projects ARE NOT OPTIONAL and will be worth 10% of your overall grade. For most Unit Projects, you will have to choose a topic and get it approved by your instructor. Be sure to get your topic approved before you begin work. Most Unit Project topics are first come, first served; meaning once someone claims a topic, no one else will be able to use that topic.
