2C Body Systems & NEgative Feedback
I can illustrate the interacting systems within multicellular organisms and
provide evidence of mechanisms that maintain homeostasis within those systems.
provide evidence of mechanisms that maintain homeostasis within those systems.

Activity 3: Body Systems flashcardsBelow you will find flashcards with both system structures and system function mixed together. You may work individually or in pairs for this body systems review. If you work in pairs, then one person read the definition side of the card to your partner. The partner then must name which body system it is describing. After going through all cards, switch partners and repeat. Be sure to click the SHUFFLE button to re-order the cards after each round. Play a minimum of FOUR rounds (two rounds reading and two rounds answering). Trade partners after each round.

Activity 6: ISN DiagramYou have TWO parts to this assignment.
PART 1: Using your notes, I want you to construct a negative feedback loop in your ISN (page number to be announced - TBA). A negative feedback loop will have "normal" in the middle. Then it will have two loops; one going up and one going down. The two loops are showing two different processes and will describe how the body reacts to both. You will be using the setup shown below with the light blue boxes. You are to copy this negative feedback loop into your ISN. You are then to finish filling out each of the empty boxes to show how negative feedback works. You may add more boxes to your diagram if you want. This is a concept map or illustration of a negative feedback loop. You may use the image below it for help. PART 2: In your ISN, below your completed negative feedback loop diagram, you are to explain (in paragraph form with complete sentences, correct grammar and accurate punctuation)

Activity 7: interacting body systems chartYou have reviewed all the body systems AND you have looked at how negative feedback works to keep those systems maintaining homeostasis (stays in balance). Now let's put it all together. Pick up a Human Body Systems Chart handout. In this chart, you will see the structure, function and major organs of all the human body systems. But in the far right hand column you will also see information about how the organ systems interact with each other. You FIRST need to read and highlight this packet. Pay particular attention to how all of the body systems interact with each other. Hint: you might be tested over this information, so pay close attention as you read/highlight.
This activity will be worth FIVE total points. For the FIVE points, show your instructor the highlighted packet. For 15 BONUS POINTS, complete the following (in addition to reading and highlighting the packet): Report to your instructor. Your instructor will assign you ONE way that two different systems interact. You will need to explain how these two systems interact with each other. You must include how negative feedback is used to maintain homeostasis. You will write a short ONE paragraph explanation of how your assigned interaction helps the body maintain homeostasis. A google doc template in included on Canvas to help you organize your paragraph. Fill in the short sections in the Google doc then turn in in Canvas. |
