4A DNA StRUcture & ReplicatioN
I can construct a model of the structure of DNA and demonstrate the process of DNA replication.

Activity 5: DNA Extraction Virtual LabYou may complete this activity in PAIRS. Pick up a virtual lab handout. Follow the instructions on the screen and fill out the handout as you go.
|
Activity 6: Paper Model DNAPick upa DNA Paper Models Procedure handout. Follow the instructions given in class and in the procedure to create a segment of DNA. You will cut out the appropriate pieces then assemble them in the correct way to make an accurate representation of a DNA molecule. You will be gluing this into your ISN. Page # will be announced in class. Be sure to answer all questions on the back of the procedure page.
|
For activity 4 & 5 you will be working in PAIRS.
Discuss answers with each other.
Call your instructor over to check your work when you are finished with BOTH activities.
BOTH students must be able to answer questions correctly.

image 3For image #3: What % of DNA will be made up of the nitrogenous base thymine?
|
image 4For image #4:
For the human sample, what % of DNA will be made up of cytosine? For the chicken sample, what % of DNA will be made up of thymine? For the bacteria sample, what % of DNA will be made up of guanine? How did you figure this out? |
activity 13: A Step Further...Now that you have a good understanding of the basic structure of DNA, you need to understand that what you know right now is not "the whole story." For high school biology, we learn the basics on a LOT of different topics. But your body is a VERY complex and complicated machine. To understand a little bit more about how DNA structure actually exists and fits inside your cells, watch this video clip.
