5A Reproduction - Mitosis - Meiosis
I can compare and contrast sexual and asexual reproduction; develop and use models to communicate the role of mitosis, cell division and differentiation in complex organisms; use models to clarify how DNA is passed from parents to offspring through meiosis and fertilization; and make and defend a claim that genetic variation can result from a variety of factors.

activity 3: Asexual vs sexual reproduction shutterCreate a shutterfold like the one you created with the General Biology Greek and Latin list. If you need to, go back to 1A for instructions on how to create the shutterfold. This time, on the LEFT hand side of your shutters, you should have all of the information for ASEXUAL reproduction. On the RIGHT hand side of your shutters, you should have all of the information for SEXUAL reproduction. Use the notes you took in activity 1A above. You should have the same number of flaps on both sides and the flaps across from each other should contain comparable information. For example: The top flap for both sides should say "What Is It?" (the first section in your notes) The under the left hand flap (asexual side) should be the information about what asexual reproduction is. Then under the right hand flap (sexual side) should be the information about what sexual reproduction is. The second set of flaps should be "Types of Organisms" then the third set should be "Advantages", etc. If you have questions, please ask your instructor.

Activity 5: can you tell? You will be working in groups of FOUR for this activity. Divide into PAIRS. Each PAIR needs ONE laptop. Go to the link below. Each pair needs to read the information at the top of the page. Then follow the instructions listed below.
|
Describe AT LEAST TWO ways that the END PRODUCTS in mitosis and meiosis are DIFFERENT.
activity 9: Sources of VariationYou may watch the video in PAIRS. Watch the video clip below. Refer back to your notes about sources of variation. Add additional notes to your notes packet as needed throughout the video.
